CHESTER, PA – Covanta, a leader in sustainable materials management, hosted a June career fair in Chester, Pa. As a partner to the community and employer in the region, Covanta Delaware Valley’s career fair offered the opportunity for the public to attend, apply for jobs and interview on the spot. The waste-to-energy facility also offered opportunities for the public to learn about Covanta and its commitment to its neighbors.
At this month’s career fair, 52 people attended and were interviewed, 32 candidates progressed to stage two interviews. 18 candidates are being considered for offers. Local Chester eatery Duo Taco supported the event delicious taco platters.
“I became the facility manager last September. As we have met with business, community and elected leaders, the message is clear ‘hire people from Chester’,” said Larry Smith, Facility Manager at Covanta Delaware Valley. “We have heard you and we are changing.”
Covanta was purchased by EQT in December of 2021 and our new leadership team is dedicated to developing closer ties to our communities. Top executives including our CEO from Covanta have come to Chester to hear from the community.
“Covanta’s commitment to Chester is real and we are in it for the long haul,” said Alyssa Wilds, Senior Manager of Corporate Relations. “Whether it’s through feeding 250 families with a popup grocery store, community cleanups, sponsoring an HBCU trip for students at Chester Upland or community career fairs like this one, Covanta wants to be a true partner to the people in Chester.”
“Under our new ownership with EQT, Covanta is prioritizing hiring locally, so that our facilities and operations reflect the communities we serve,” said Covanta’s Vice President of Human Resources, Adrienne Christmas. “We’re proud to host career fairs - not just jobs fairs - where people can interview on the spot, learn more about what Covanta is doing as a leader in sustainability, and leave with potential offers lined up. These fairs help us live up to our promise to be a true partner to Chester.”
Covanta Delaware Valley will host community hiring events in July and August.
