Providing Winter Essentials for Veterans

November 30, 2020

Covanta Hempstead Veterans Stand-down Event

Covanta Hempstead donated essential clothing items to Long Island’s veterans for the 32nd Annual Veterans Winter Stand Down event at the Freeport Armory. The event was hosted by the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency (VSA).

The event this year was put on a little differently in order to ensure the safety of both volunteers and veterans. Instead of being held in the Armory, bags were directly placed into veterans’ cars. Bags contained winter jackets, clothes, boots, as well as non-perishable food items and a holiday turkey.

Seen below is Covanta Community Affairs Specialist Maureen Early (far right) with Nassau County Executive Laura Curran (far left) and several members of the VSA (middle) at a press conference to announce the event on Thursday, November 19.
