Covanta Lancaster sponsored a “Design a Bag” contest for sixth-grade students at nearby Taylor Middle School. Contestants submitted original artwork representing Earth Day with employees from the facility as judges. Winning students were chosen from each homeroom to receive a gift card donated by the facility with the overall winner receiving a Kindle Fire to encourage continued education on environmental issues, as well as a pizza party for their homeroom!
The winning design will also be printed on reusable shopping bags that will be distributed to local businesses and handed out to customers. The “Design a Bag” contest has been a part of Covanta Lancaster’s calendar for over 20 years, and everyone at the facility was excited to be back supporting creativity and the environment after the event was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic.
