Covanta Harrisburg participated in a citywide initiative to beautify the Harrisburg community. Prompted by the continuous concerns from Harrisburg residents regarding trash and illegal dumping, city council member Ralph Rodriguez partnered with the Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority (LCSWMA) to create the “Hot Spot Saturdays” initiative. On a weekly basis throughout the summer the city of Harrisburg and local volunteers will remove trash from known illegal dumping hot spots. Covanta Harrisburg provided gloves, trash bags, trash grabbers, and wheelbarrows to spur the initiative. The clean-up locations will span several neighborhoods including areas in Uptown, South Harrisburg and Allison Hill. All acceptable waste collected will be disposed of at the LCSWMA Susquehanna Resource Management Complex located in Harrisburg and operated by Covanta.
