The York County Resource Recovery Center, operated by Covanta York Renewable Energy, LLC, began commercial operation in 1989 and serves the municipal waste disposal needs of the nearly 400,000 residents of York County, PA. Located on 112 acres, the facility processes 1,300+ tons of municipal solid waste per day, generating 36 to 40 megawatts of renewable electricity – enough to power over 20,000 homes. Covanta has an operating agreement with the facility's owner, the York County Solid Waste and Refuse Authority.
Hauler Safety Appreciation Day
In conjunction with the York County Solid Waste Authority, Covanta York hosts an annual Hauler Safety Appreciation Day event for all the haulers that conduct business at the facility. This day includes safety reminders for haulers, a safety quiz with prizes and invited guests from the community.
