Covanta Stanislaus

The Stanislaus Resource Recovery Facility began commercial operation in January 1989 and is located in the community of Crows Landing, about 25 miles from Modesto in the farmlands of California's central valley. This 16.5-acre facility, operating as Covanta Stanislaus, processes 800 tons per day of solid waste, which generates up to 22.5 megawatts of renewable energy. The facility is a zero water discharge plant, which means that all wastewater generated on-site is treated and reused in the process.

Air Pollution Control Equipment:

Semi-dry flue gas scrubbers injecting lime, fabric filter baghouses, nitrogen oxide control system, mercury control system, and continuous emissions monitoring (CEM) system

Energy-from-Waste System:

Two,400 ton-per-day waterwall furnaces with Martin® reverse-reciprocating grates and ash handling system

Energy Generation:

Up to 22.5 megawatts from one condensing steam turbine generator

Awards and Recognition:

Designated a Voluntary Protection Program Star facility by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for workplace safety
