Covanta Plymouth

Covanta Plymouth Renewable Energy, LLC, began commercial operation in February 1992 and serves municipalities in eastern Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The 20.9-acre facility operates as Covanta Plymouth Renewable Energy, LLC, and processes approximately 1,216 tons per day of municipal solid waste – generating greater than 32 megawatts of renewable energy. The facility is equipped with a water-cooled turbine-generator condenser that converts steam to water for continuous cycling of water through the boilers.

Air Pollution Control Equipment:

Flue gas scrubbers injecting lime, fabric filter baghouses, nitrogen oxide control, mercury control and continuous emissions monitoring system

Energy-from-Waste System:

Two 608 ton-per-day Steinmuller Gmbh reciprocating grate and water wall furnaces

Energy Generation:

Up to 32 megawatts of electricity

Awards and Recognition:

Designated a Voluntary Protection Program Star facility by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for workplace safety
