The Pinellas County Resource Recovery Facility is located on 15 acres within the 700-acre Pinellas County Solid Waste Management complex in St. Petersburg, FL.  The facility is owned by Pinellas County, FL and began commercial operation in 1983. Covanta Pinellas assumed operational responsibility for the facility in late 2014. The facility can process up to 3,150 tons per day of solid waste while generating up to 75 megawatts (MW) of clean, renewable energy.

Air Pollution Control Equipment:

Semi-dry flue gas scrubbers injecting lime, fabric filter baghouses, nitrogen oxide control system, mercury control system, and continuous emissions monitoring system

Energy-from-Waste System:

Three 1,050 ton-per-day of solid waste waterwall furnaces with Martin® reverse-reciprocating grates

Energy Generation:

Up to 75 MW of electricity 

Awards and Recognition:

Covanta Pinellas built an Industrial Water Treatment Facility (IWTF) that takes water from a large retention pond on site and cleans it.  As the pond water goes through the IWTF, the water is cleaned allowing the community to conserve water and reduce costs.
