Energy-from-Waste Facility

The Lake County Resource Recovery Facility, operating as Covanta Lake, Inc., is located in the middle of the State of Florida, just south of Leesburg. Covanta Lake began commercial operation in March 1991. The facility processes a total of 528 tons per day of solid waste while generating up to 14.5 megawatts of renewable energy that is sold to Progress Energy.

Semi-dry flue gas scrubbers injecting lime, fabric filter baghouses, nitrogen oxide control system, mercury control system, and continuous emissions monitoring (CEM) system

Rated Refuse Capacity:

528 tons-per-day

Energy Generation at Rated Capacity:

up to 14.5 megawatts from one condensing steam turbine generator
