Covanta Onondaga, L.P. (Jamesville, NY), operates the Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency Facility for the county of Onondaga. Covanta Onondaga is owned by its parent company, Covanta.
Covanta Onondaga is located in Jamesville, New York. The facility has operated continuously, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, since it began commercial operation in 1995. The facility is permitted to process approximately 360,000 tons per year while operating a 39 megawatt (MW) electrical generator with an actual output of approximately 35 MW. This is equivalent to an estimated savings of 7,330,000 barrels of oil per year, or the equivalent of the electrical consumption of 380,000 homes. Covanta Onondaga also performs ferrous (steel) and non-ferrous (aluminum) recovery and recycles approximately 10,000 tons of ferrous metal and 500 tons of non-ferrous metal annually.
